Mochelan

Mon Corps T’Exprime

(2011, D.I.Y.) France.

Mochelan - Mon Corps T'Exprime

Finally.

Here is some good french hiphop.

I follow, sad, the different french hiphop band these years, and nothing really new comes out (except maybe Jonaz, Non-stop and Fuzati)

And then : Mochelan : here is the magic cocktail : Original production, Terrific voice and strong identity then smart-ass lyrics with a good flow.

Let’s listen to these tracks, after noticing this great artwork (I love combination of à-la-Epinal pictures).

There is two parts on that record : Thèse / Antithèse.

I must admit that I don’t really like the acoustic tracks, but it’s my bad : I listened too young too much The Locust and Hella.

But at least, the voice is more in front in the mix and you’ll better appreciate the quality of his lyrics.

I really love Notre Ville lyrics.

Then come the Antithèse part, electro and that was a big slap in my face.

My favorite track is Ah Ouais (evenif some may think it’s Alors Ouais).

A totally crazy production, crafted by the hands of the fine Listel Drinker, Max Landers.

I don’t say that because Max is a friend/co-worker, but it’s true : these piano riffs flaping in the air : well-done.

The mix is well-done and don’t struggle the voice : a master work.

“On choisit mal sa vie quand on choisit mal son vin” (To save in my punchline stock)

In the same vein : Incidence, Le Futur et Le Plus Barge and their delicatessen lyrics (cf Salvateur Dali).

Fine, Visionnary, We want more !

The Tuss

Rushup Edge

(2007, Rephlex Records) UK.

The Tuss - Rushup Edge

First album for The Tuss.

Let’s start with the main point : Death Fuck Mental Beats is work of art.

As for the rhythmic patterns, as for the synthesizers and innovation : all is absolutely terrific in that song.

You can keep every second and hail to its amazing finale at 4:12.

The other tracks are closest to the first ep tracks.

Let’s start with the catchy Synthacon 9,

In Last Rusp Up 10 F I really love the part at 4:02 and its great synthesizer.

Shiz Ko E is a funky song, fresh and with an interesting evolving.

Rush Up I Bank 12 reminds me a lot of Aphex Twin, and I like how they switch the drumkits and the shutter effects.

The last song is a little bit too ambient for me.

A Must Have Or Die.

Confederation Trough EP

(2007, Rephlex Records) UK.

The Tuss - Confederation Trough

First Ep for The Tuss.

I think this album created itself-self.

So we are clearly in the Aphex twin vein.

Alspacka is a great, fresh and harmonic song. The synthesizers are Grand and the mouth noises well-done. I really love the break final at 4:21.

I really love the synthesizer in Fredugolon 6.

The other tracks seem to me undone, like a total experimental sound trip in one take.

Very good !

Hayaino Daisuki

Invincible Gate Mind Of The Infernal Fire Hell (ep)

(2010, Hydra head Records) USA.

Hayaino Daisuki - The Invincible Gate Mind Of The Infernal Fire Hell

2nd Ep for the fast Hayaino Daisuki (with Discordance Axis members).

I was totally smashed the first time I listened to Ghosts Of Purgatory.

This is a kind of trash/heavy metal, really, really fast and powerful.

You’ll find too fast soli and very harshed, screamed vocals : What else ? A Bentley.

Kirei is really interesting with a feminine voice as crazy as the main singer one.

I love the fast part with the ride cymbal at 2:07 in Shibito.

Finally, the singer spit his guts in the final song Blood.

Superbe.

Cylob

Rewind ! (ep)

(1999, Rephlex Records) UK.

Cylob - Rewind ! (ep)

As a good fan of Aphex twin, I had a look to his label Rephlex Records.

That’s where I saw, a couple years ago, the videoclip of the amazing Rewind ! : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5yrA-BpWECI

I love the rhythmic pattern and I appreciate a lot the robot vocals and they even have a flow (like around 2:06).

On the second track, you have the instrumental + Robot acappela all along : perfect for a remix.

Finally, you’ll find a Remix by DMX Krew with a little bit more 8 bit touch.

Excellent !

DJ Diamond

Flight Muzik

(2011, Planet Mu Records) USA, Chicago.

DJ Diamond - Flight Muzik

I discovered DJ Diamond randomly. Hail to random !

First of all, I was attracted by his terrific artwork (one of my favorite in 2011).

You play the CD and What a slap ! (Uh)

I started being bored with electro music these days and Dj Diamond created his strong identity.

He offers us a kind of micro-sampling and on the top, instead of adding heavy kick/bass (to be in the current trend), he adds some fine glitchy rhythmic patterns (Horns).

Then, he just plays with the sample (like in Speakerz’n'Tonguez or Pop The Trunk)

I really appreciate the Santigold sample in Go Hard.

A Must-have.

I can’t wait to listen to his next record.

Judas Priest

Painkiller 7″

(1990, Columbia Records) UK.

Judas Priest - Painkiller

Painkiller is my favorite metal song from all times. Give it a try :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nM__lPTWThU

It was my first guitar teacher, Stéphane Legrand, who played me that terrific song and its two grand solos at 2:10 and at 5:10. I tried hard to play these solos, and I kind of learned them 50%.

These two soli are written by two masters : K.K. Drowning and Glenn Tipton.

Hail them !

In deed, I’m not really into heavy music, but that song is an exception.

Rob Halford performed grand vocals !

A Must Have.
